25 people injured in car crash in Los Angeles

WORLD, Nov. 17 (YPA) – A car crashed into a large group of trainee officers during a training run in Whittier, Los Angeles, leaving 25 officers injured, five of them in critical condition, media reported.

“It looked like an airplane wreck,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Sheriff Alex Villanueva told a news conference.

“There was so many bodies scattered everywhere in different states of injury that it was pretty traumatic for all individuals involved.”

The county sheriff confirmed that initial tests of the alcohol meter showed the driver was not drunk.

Dozens of trainee officers were jogging in the morning when they were hit by a car that was reportedly driving in the wrong direction and apparently did not slow down.

The Los Angeles Times quoted  an official as saying the car was driving in the wrong direction at the time of the crash.

Officials said the driver, who was not named, was detained at the scene. California Highway Patrol is investigating.
