G20 agreed to launch pandemic fund

WORLD, Nov. 13 (YPA) – The G20 health ministers have agreed to establish a pandemic fund, despite their geopolitical differences.

Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin told a press conference after the second meeting of finance and health ministers of the G-20 countries: “The process of establishing a fund with the aim of helping small businesses, medium and developing countries to buy vaccines and medicines during outbreaks of infectious diseases has been completed.”

He added, “All decisions of the Group of Twenty are taken exclusively by consensus. Look, it’s very difficult to reach consensus in the current geopolitical situation. But in this geopolitical situation, we were able to reach consensus on the creation of a fund, and that’s the most important thing.”

“Just as the International Monetary Fund, which helps countries during economic and financial crises, was created at the end of World War II, we created the Epidemics Fund to help countries fight epidemics like the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sadkin said.

He announced that the opening ceremony of the Epidemic Control Fund will be held in Bali on November 13.

It is noteworthy that ministerial meetings are being held within the framework of the G20  on various fields and activities, in preparation for the summit of the leaders of the Group in Bali on November 15 and 16.
