Saudi Arabia jails woman for 45 years for expressing her opinion
RIYADH, Nov. 12 (YPA) – The “Prisoners of Conscience” Twitter account, which tracks the human rights file in Saudi Arabia, said on Saturday that the activist Noura bint Saeed Al-Qahtani is serving an unfair sentence of 45 years in prison on charges related to expressing opinion.
The Saudi Court of Appeals sentenced Al-Qahtani to 45 years in prison after convicting her of “disturbing public order” due to posts on social media, weeks after another activist was sentenced to 34 years in prison over tweets.
The Criminal Court of Appeal in Riyadh, which specializes in terrorism crimes, sentenced Al-Qahtani to prison on charges of “seeking to destabilize the social fabric and national cohesion via the Internet,” as the Saudi authorities claimed.
