JAWF, Nov. 01 (YPA) – About two civilians were killed on Thursday when a landmine, which was planted by the Saudi-led coalition forces earlier, exploded in Jawf province.
A local source in the province confirmed that the landmine blasted in Ham area of Al-Matoun district, calling on the concerned authorities to take urgent action to clean the area from the remnants of the coalition’s mines and cluster bombs.
On Wednesday, Director of the Executive Center for Mine Action in Sanaa, Brigadier General Ali Safra, revealed that the number of civilian casualties during October of this year reached 46, including 18 dead and 28 wounded, and during the first week of November there were 8 dead, while the total casualties during this year counted to 650 dead and injured.
He attributed the high number of casualties to the size and scope of the country’s contamination with cluster bombs and remnants of war, and the lack of survey equipment required to purify the affected areas, as a result of the coalition’s rejection of their entry.
