HODEIDA, Nov. 05 (YPA) – The competent departments of the General Authority for fisheries in the Red Sea, in cooperation with the Coast Guard Department, seized on Saturday three fishing boats in violation of the decision to close the shrimp fishing season.
The directors of ports and fish landing centers Aziz Atini and Fisheries Mohammed Al-Salawi said that the seizure of these boats came after a follow-up and monitoring operation, after the authority received reports of fishermen pulling shrimp from the areas of Saleef, Ben Abbas and Harouniya.
They pointed out that the boats and their fishing quantities and tools were seized, and the fishermen seized on board were referred to the concerned authorities to complete their legal procedures, stressing the application of the ministerial decision to close the shrimp fishing season, and to control the violators and those behind them, in order to preserve the fish wealth.
They also pointed out that the closure decisions are aimed at preserving fish stocks, especially during the period of reproduction, fertilization and natural growth of fish and marine life in general.
