Dozens of commercial truck drivers in Abyan declare general strike

ABYAN, Oct. 05 (YPA) – Dozens of commercial truck drivers in Abyan province carried out a general strike, in refusal to cut taxes and fees by the “Southern Transitional Council (STC) backed by the UAE.

Sources familiar with the matter affirmed that the strike came against the backdrop of imposing exorbitant levies of nearly one million riyals in military points.

The sources noted that the exorbitant financial levies in 21 military points in the main roads doubled the suffering of citizens and obstructed commercial activity.

This came a month after the STC forces coming from Dhalea and Lahj imposed their control over various areas in Abyan, under the pretext of confronting terrorist elements.
