Sanaa, UN envoy discuss efforts exerted to extend truce, reach sustainable peace

SANAA, Sept. 29 (YPA) – Foreign Minister in Sanaa, Hisham Sharaf, met with the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to discuss the efforts exerted to extend the truce in order to create the appropriate conditions to reach a political settlement and sustainable peace.

In the meeting, the minister explained Sanaa’s demands are not preconditions, but purely humanitarian ones, but rather are purely humanitarian ones, and should not be in dispute or negotiation if the other party is serious in ending the military aggression and lifting the comprehensive siege to reach sustainable political settlement.

“The truce is indeed a real opportunity to build confidence between the parties, to complete peace-building measures, and to prepare well for real negotiations to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni citizen in all provinces that have suffered from the repercussions of the aggression,” Sharaf said.

The minister pointed out that the simplest rights of the Yemeni citizen is for a government employee to receive his salary on a monthly and permanent basis and to travel from Sanaa International Airport and other Yemeni airports without placing conditions and obstacles in the way of civil aviation and commercial, including opening new travel destinations and not threatening and obstructing foreign commercial airlines with access and departure to and from Sanaa Airport.

In turn, Grundberg affirmed that the United Nations would continue to exert its good offices to end the war, lift the comprehensive siege in Yemen, and engage all parties in serious peace negotiations that meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
