Al-Qaeda militants deployed in several districts of Abyan

ABYAN, Sept. 09 (YPA) – Al-Qaeda militants were deployed in several directorates of Abyan province, southern Yemen, on Thursday, Yemen News Portal reported, citing media sources affiliated with the Saudi-led coalition.

According to the sources, the terrorist organization has pushed large reinforcements in the past hours to Abyan coming from its camps in the Hadramout province.

The sources explained that the new reinforcements were concentrated in the district of Modia, which is the birthplace of former interior minister Ahmed al-Maysari, who is affiliated with the Islah party, noting that the elements will be distributed in the central areas of the province.

Al-Qaeda’s military deployment comes less than 48 hours after the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) accused the organization of carrying out an armed attack on its factions in Ahwar district, which resulted left 36 dead and wounded.

Leaders in the so-called Riyadh- formed Presidential Council have already confirmed that Islah have a coordination with al-Qaeda to launch a counter-military operation in Abyan, in an attempt to regain positions lost in the past days.
