Parliament member: Oil wealth is sovereign, we will not allow oil thefts

SANAA, Sept. 08 (YPA) – Head of the Development, Oil and Mineral Resources Committee in the House of Representatives, Muhammad Ali Sewar, on Wednesday affirmed that oil and gas are sovereign wealth and that their revenues should be used for the benefit of the people.

In a statement to Al-Masirah TV, Sewar said that the Parliament is concerned with following up the file of Yemeni oil thefts and obligating the government to work to stop these thefts by all means.

The Committee demanded, in a recommendation to Parliament, that oil be neutralized as it is sovereign, that it be sold for the benefit of the Yemeni people and that its revenues be transferred to the Central Bank, he added.

He pointed out that companies that sell oil from the sectors granted to them without the permission of the National Salvation Government are in violation of the agreements signed with them.

Sewar denounced what some foreign companies operating in the energy sector did to sell their concession areas in Shabwa to other companies without referring to the Yemeni state, stressing that this step is an explicit violation of the partnership agreement and everything that resulted from it is considered null.

He stated that “the aggression forces and mercenaries had linked the Sector 18 pipeline in Marib to the Jannah Hunt sector in Hadramout instead of Ras Issa in Hodeida.”
