HADRAMOUT, Sept. 03 (YPA) – Several leaders of the “First Military Region” loyal to Islah Party refused to leave their positions from oil-rich districts of Wadi Hadramout in eastern Yemen.
Local sources indicated that the region’s leadership refused to withdraw its command center from the city of Seiyun, after news that the UAE had given the region’s militants 48 hours to withdraw towards Marib.
The sources stated that the military leaders of the region held a meeting during the past hours to discuss the military situation, emphasizing they would remain in their camps, amid threats to detonate the situation.
Additionally, they would face any escalation by the “Hadrami Elite” militia funded by the UAE.
Earlier in the day, the leaders of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council militia held an expanded meeting in the city of Mukalla, the Hadramout provincial capital, demanding the removal of the militants of the first region from Wadi Hadramout.
The UAE imposed its control over the Islah camps in Abyan, following the launch of Operation against what it called terrorist elements, without any significant confrontations.
UAE is seeking to impose its control over the districts of Wadi Hadramout, through the Hadrami Elite militia, after the STC announced its military operations during the past few days about its military operations towards Wadi Hadramout and Mahra.
