ABYAN, Sept. 01 (YPA) – Forces affiliated with the Islah party on Thursday refused the appointment of a new commander loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
This comes a day after the STC tried to complete its takeover of these forces through making a deal with military leadership.
The 39th Armored Brigade’s forces in a memorandum to the joint forces based in Abyan expressing their rejection the appointment of Aidarous Abdul Rahim Al-Sha’eri as commander of the brigade instead of the former Abdullah Al-Subaihi..
The memorandum pointed to the forces are adhered to the “Brigade War Staff”, who has been carrying out the functions of its commander for 4 years. It also threatened to target the STC-appointed commander if he entered the camp.
The STC had reached an agreement with these factions affiliated with Islah to declare their loyalty to the it in exchange for stopping the military campaign in Shuqra..
Although military leaders from the STC have arrived at the headquarters of this brigade based in Lawdar district, the refusal of the STC-affiliated leader indicates the rebellion of these forces despite the STC’s attempt to portray a new victory for its forces.
