Taiwan warns China to strike back against its military incursions

WORLD, Sept. 01 (YPA) – In an unusual warning, Taiwan has stressed that it will defend itself and respond to China’s penetration of its airspace and military incursions into its territorial waters .

The warning comes as Beijing is intensifying exercises and patrols around the island, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

The warning also comes a day after Taiwan’s military fired warning shots at a Chinese drone for the first time, hours after Taiwan’s president, Tsai In’ Wen,  in which she said that she could take “strong countermeasures” if necessary.

Lin Wen Huang, deputy chief of the general staff for operations and planning, told a news briefing Wednesday: “For aircraft and ships that have entered our 12-nautical-mile maritime and air space, the national army will defend itself and launch a counterattack without exception.”

Taiwan’s defence ministry officials said that the Chinese high-intensity  military patrols near Taiwan were continuing, and Beijing’s intention to make the Taiwan Strait, which separates the two sides by its “internal sea,” would be a major source of instability in the region.
