Public Works Minister calls UNOPS to support rural roads, housing projects

SANAA, Aug. 29 (YPA) – The Minister of Public Works and Roads, Ghaleb Mutlaq, on Monday stressed that the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS)’s projects should include rural roads and housing projects in the poorest areas to reduce migration to cities.

This came during his meeting today with the UNOPS Director in Amman, Muhammad Othman, the representative of UNOPS in Yemen, Mayar Rasoul, and the project advisor, Dr. Khaldoun Salem.

Mutlaq explained that the Ministry of Public Works and Roads has a vision for emergency interventions, the most important of which are the roads linking the capital Sanaa with other cities and ports.

He pointed out that there are many roads that need maintenance and the ministry aspires to be covered by the projects of the UNOPS, including the destroyed bridges.

For its part, the UNOPS team affirmed its readiness to provide support to include more urban and rural road projects, as well as training and rehabilitation for cadres working in the field of public works and roads.
