Shabwa governor survives assassination attempt in province

SHABWA, Aug. 27 (YPA) – Shabwa governor, appointed by the coalition-backed government, Awad bin Al-Wazir Al-Awlaki, survived on Saturday an assassination attempt in the province.

Local sources familiar with the matter said that the security services of the UAE-funded Transitional Council (STC)’s militia managed to dismantle an explosive device planted on the main road linking the districts of Nisab, Ataq and Bayhan of the province, while Al-Wazir was making a field visit to Nisab Hospital.

The sources confirmed that one of the citizens reported that an armed group had planted an explosive device on the main road linking the three districts with the goal of targeting the governor while he was returning from Nisab district to Ataq city, the Shabwa provincial capital.

According to STC media, the governor met with the security team that was able to dismantle the explosive device and praised their efforts, thanking the cooperation of citizens with the security services.
