Iran renews readiness to exchange prisoners with US

TEHRAN, Aug. 17 (YPA) – Iran has renewed its willingness to exchange prisoners with the United States, calling on the administration of President “Joe Biden”, to “move instead of theatrical performances”, in order to achieve this.

“We expect the United States to release without any conditions the Iranian citizens detained for their role in circumventing US sanctions,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on Wednesday.

He added, “We do not recognize dual citizenship in Iran and consider them Iranian citizens.”

Iran, which does not recognize dual nationals, denies holding prisoners to gain political influence.

Despite this, the the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp has arrested dozens of dual nationals and foreigners, most of them on espionage and security charges.

Tehran is seeking to release more than 10 Iranians in the United States, including 7 Iranian-Americans with dual nationals, two Iranians with permanent residence in the United States, and 4 Iranians who do not have legal status in the United States.
