Civilian killed by coalition snipers in Shabwa

SHABWA, Aug. 09 (YPA) – A civilian was killed and another one wounded on Tuesday by snipers of the Saudi-led coalition in the city of Ataq, the Shabwa provincial capital.

Medical sources stated that clashes resumed between the “Shabwa Defense” militia backed by the UAE-funded Al-Amaliqa Brigades, and the militants of the “Special Forces” and “21 Mika Brigade”, led by Abed Rabbo Lakab, loyal to the Saudi-backed Islah Party in the streets of Ataq, amid a wave of displacement of dozens of families.

The clashes have left nearly 9 people dead and wounded, since the clashes began in the early hours of Monday.

The sources explained that the militia of the so called “Shabwa Defense”, had taken military sites and barricades from Ataq Hospital to launch attacks on the militants of the leader of Lakab.

On the other hand, the militants of the Special Forces destroyed a military vehicle belonging to the “Al-Amaliqa” that the UAE had brought from Dhalea and Yafa, in front of the province building in the center of Ataq.

The UAE-backed governor of Shabwa, Awadh Al-Awlaki, directed the “Shabwa Defense” not to surrender and to resolve the confrontations with what he called the Muslim Brotherhood’s forces, after decisions were issued to overthrow a number of leaders loyal to Islah, and to appoint loyalists to the “Southern Transitional Council funded by the UAE.
