MARIB, Aug. 02 (YPA) – Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday assassinated a prominent leader in the General People’s Congress (GPC) in Marib province, northeastern Yemen.
This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on testimonies of local sources.
Sources said that gunmen shot a member of the Standing Committee Sheikh Hussein Zabenullah Shajara in front of his house in Harib district south of Marib.
Shajara is one of GPC’s leaders in Harib and was previously attacked and threatened with death in 2011 by Islah party gunmen in Marib city for criticizing the practices of the joint meeting party bloc, including “reform.”
Harib district has been witnessing conflicts between the Islah party and the pro-UAE forces following the latter’s attempt to find a popular support against the party in exchange for allowing the GPC party to take control over the party.
