KABUL, Aug. 02 (YPA) – US media revealed details of the killing of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in an air strike in Afghanistan on Saturday.
“A US drone raid killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Afghanistan,” the Associated Press quoted its sources as saying.
Two Hellfire rockets were fired at the balcony of a house where al-Zawahiri was staying in Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, two days earlier, killing him and injuring another, the sources said.
They noted that the targeted house is located close to the US Embassy and is located within the Green Zone, where security forces are deployed.
“The intelligence services located al-Zawahiri earlier this year,” President Joe Biden said.
The Taliban government condemned a US raid that it said targeted a house Sherpur area of Kabul, without mentioning its purpose or giving further details.
