Somali Parliament gives PM 10 more days to form cabinet

MOGADISHU, Jul. 26 (YPA) – Somalia’s parliament agreed on Monday to give Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre 10 more days to form his government.

The Somali news agency SNA reported that the parliament approved the prime minister’s request to give him an extension to form an all-inclusive government, noting that the delay was due to a protracted electoral process.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appointed lawmaker Hamza Abdi Barre as prime minister and tasked him with forming the government under the constitution within 30 days of parliament’s approval of his appointment, which took place on June 25th.

The Somali prime minister justified the delay in forming the government, with the impact of the country’s long electoral process over the past period on various political components.
