Biden declares US state of emergency to tackle electricity shortage

WORLD, Jun.07 (YPA) – US President Joe Biden has declared a state of emergency in the United States due to a potential shortage of electricity generation capacity in the country.

Biden said “several factors” threaten the US ability to produce the electricity it needs.

“A state of emergency has been declared due to threats of sufficient electricity generation capacity to meet consumer demand,” Biden was quoted as saying in a White House statement.

Biden’s emergency declaration included a two-year exemption from tariffs on solar panels from four Southeast Asian countries.

Earlier, residents of several states in the West and Midwest warned of possible power outages this summer due to unusually high temperatures and drought.
