Taiz city merchants call for comprehensive strike to protest attacks on them

TAIZ, Jun. 07 (YPA) – Owners of shops in Taiz city, southwest Yemen, called for a comprehensive strike on Tuesday to protest against attacks on merchants by armed gangs affiliated with Islah Party and the so-called “Taiz axis” forces.

Taiz merchants said, in a statement circulated by activists on social media, that given the repeated attacks that affect them, the strike aims to stop these daily attacks that merchants are exposed to and find radical solutions to the problems they suffer from.

The statement indicated that the strike would continue until the attacks on merchants were stopped.

The merchants demanded that the local authorities of the Riyadh-backed government provide protection from armed groups, apprehend all those proven to be involved in assaulting merchants, and compensate all merchants for the damage they sustained.
