TRIPOLI, May 12 (YPA) – The Libyan parliament in Tobruk has announced that it will hold its next sessions from Sirte in order to support Fathi Bashagha-led Government of National Stability (GNS) to start its work from the city.
The parliament’s move was seen by some as an effort to impose a de facto policy after Libya’s unity government chief Abdulhamid Dbeibah refused to step down and leave Tripoli.
Libya’s reactions have varied from the transfer of government and parliamentary work to Sirte, with implications and fears of a return to political and military division in the country.
The shift of political momentum from Tripoli and Benghazi to Sirte, the seat of the five-plus-five military committee, opens the door wide to all possibilities in Libya, but the dream of holding parliamentary and presidential elections is certainly still far-reaching, according to observers.
