Iran: Security Council resolution will make it difficult to establish peace in Yemen

TEHRAN, March 01 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Tuesday that the UN Security Council resolution on the crisis in Yemen and the literature used in it will have negative consequences on the peace process.

In response to the latest Security Council resolution on the crisis in Yemen, Khatibzadeh said: “Unfortunately, this resolution and the literature used in it are affected by political considerations and pressure from the aggressor Saudi-led coalition countries.”

The resolution represents a challenge to the existing efforts to resume the political process and will have negative consequences for the peace process and will further distance the parties to the conflict in their positions, he added.

Khatibzadeh affirmed that since the beginning of the aggression on Yemen, there has been a biased and unrealistic view towards Yemen in the United Nations Security Council led by the main supporters of the aggression, and this view was a factor in the persistence of the century’s worst human tragedy.

“Over seven years of brutal war in Yemen, we witnessed the systematic and serious violations of international law, in light of the silence of the international community and removing the UN Security Council from its duty and ignoring the crimes of the coalition,” he said.

He added that continuing this approach makes the possibility of establishing a lasting and just peace increasingly difficult and complex.
