Ukrainian President: Negotiations with Russia have not achieved the desired results

SANAA, March 01 (YPA) – Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said the first round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia had not achieved the desired results.

In a video address, Zelensky noted that the Ukrainian side will decide “how to turn for the second round” after analysing the results of the first round.

The Ukrainian president’s office had earlier reported that the main topic at the negotiating table was “an immediate ceasefire and the departure of troops from Ukrainian territory”.

Negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian delegations took place on Monday (February 28th) in Belarus.

In a televised address on February 24, Putin announced a “special military operation” aimed at “demilitarization” of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics in eastern Ukraine.

The regions broke away from Ukraine in 2014 after refusing to recognize a Western-backed Ukrainian government that had overthrown a democratically-elected Russia-friendly administration.
