SANAA, Jan. 11 (YPA) – Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, ended his visit to the United Kingdom on Tuesday.
During the visit, the envoy met James Cleverly, Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, and a number of senior British officials to discuss the deteriorating economic situation in Yemen and the recent military escalation, as well as its impact on the chances of a peaceful and just solution to the conflict.
“Military escalation cannot lead to sustainable solutions,” Mr. Grundberg said. The parties can and should engage in an ongoing political dialogue aimed at de-escalating violence and finding a way to reach a comprehensive negotiated solution. The United Nations has been ready and willing to support that process.”
He added: “Structured and sustained support provided by the international community and Security Council member states is essential to the success of these efforts.
