Beijing calls for helping developing countries fight terrorism

SANAA, Dec. 23 (YPA) – China has proposed to friendly countries to work to reinvigorate joint efforts to support developing countries in the fight against extremism, in order to create a more effective counter-terrorism strategy.

“We must help developing countries and countries primarily facing the terrorist threat, and support them in strengthening counter-terrorism measures and deradicalization methods,” said Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao

“We must also take into account the positions and needs of these countries in the fight against terrorism and the formation of a more realistic and comprehensive global counter-terrorism strategy.”

He believed that a final victory over extremism could only be achieved if the governments of the countries concerned would “cut off the terror” and pay more attention to economic, political, social, cultural and religious factors.

“Over the past 20 years, the situation in Afghanistan has shown that eliminating terrorism by force is difficult and has no long-term perspective,” he said.
