Unknown gunmen assassinate commander of emergency unit in Abyan

ABYAN, Dec. 22 (YPA) – Commander of the so-called “emergency unit” in the special forces affiliated with Islah Party loyal to Saudi-led coalition was killed on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen in Abyan province, southern Yemen.

Local sources reported that unknown gunmen shot at the commander of the emergency unit and the special forces in Ahwar district, Saleh Ahmed Ali Mehdhar Al-Fadhli, in the center of Shoqra city and killed him on the spot.

The gunmen managed to escape, amid a state of panic among the citizens, the sources added.

The sources attributed the assassination of Mehdhar as part of the conflict between Islah’s security leaders in the city of Shoqra, which witnessed violent confrontations earlier this month.

The city of Shaqra is the main stronghold of the Islah military leadership after it was expelled from the city of Zenjbar in August 2019.
