US envoy called on Sudanese authorities to allow citizens to protest

SANAA, Oct. 30 (YPA) – The United States On Friday, called on Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to allow the people to protest peacefully.

US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman said he sent a clear message that the Sudanese people must be allowed to protest peacefully this weekend, and the United States will be watching closely.

This was made during his talks with Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Hamdok Foreign Minister Maryam Sadiq al-Mahdi.

The call comes after the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces this week declared a nationwide state of emergency and abolished the councils of sovereignty and ministers, accusing the civilian component of power of “conspiring and inciting against the army.”

The army arrested Prime Minister Abdulla Hamdok on Monday morning, before later releasing him and placing him under house arrest, while some other officials were arrested but have not yet been released.
