More than 100 containers fall into the sea off British Columbia

SANAA, Oct. 28 (YPA) – The Canadian Coast Guard said  on Wednesday that more than 100 containers had fallen from a container ship loaded with a shipment of mining chemicals.

The containers fell as a result of a fire aboard the cargo the MV Zim Kingsto off the coast of British Columbia, and there were no reports of injuries or casualties, Reuters reported.

“With the fire under control, the Zim Kingston crew was able to access the container space on the ship,” the Canadian Coast Guard said on Twitter. They now believe that 106 containers have fallen, not 40. The number of containers containing dangerous goods is unchanged.”

Containers containing toys, clothing, car parts, industrial parts and furniture from the ship fell into high waves near Port Angeles.

Danaos shipping, which operates the ship, reported that 16 crew members were evacuated on Saturday and five remained, joined by members of the rescue and fire service to put out the fire.
