3 killed, 33 injured in restaurant explosion in northeast China

SANAA, Oct. 21 (YPA) – At least three people were killed and more than 30 injured in a powerful explosion at a restaurant in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang on Thursday morning, according to local authorities.

 The gas explosion took place in a mixed-use residential and commercial building, authorities said in a statement. All the injured have been sent to hospitals, the statement added.

 Officials are still investigating the cause of the blast.

 Videos circulating on social media showed the massive destruction of the three-storey building, whose debris was scattered throughout the area, damaging nearby buildings and cars parked near the restaurant.

 More than 100 firefighters arrived at the scene of the accident, which was caused by a gas explosion, according to official Chinese media.
