LONDON, Oct. 17 (YPA) – Britain has granted asylum to an Iraqi chemist involved in the killing of 100,000 people with chemical gas during the era of Saddam Hussein, according to the British newspaper, “Sunday Mirror”.
According to a report published by this newspaper, the Iraqi scientist, a former brigadier general in the army of the former regime, requested asylum after arriving in London on a work visa.
British Home Secretary Priti Patel tried to fire him, but he was allowed to stay after insisting he could face execution if he resigned and returned home.
The Iraqi brigadier general raised his case to the Supreme Court of the Immigration and Asylum Service, and it ruled in his favor last July, and he obtained the right of permanent residence in Britain.
