UN calls on donors to provide additional funding for Yemen

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (YPA) – The United Nations has called on donor countries to provide more aid to Yemen so that it do not have to cut back on humanitarian aid in the severely famine-stricken country.

This came in the speech of the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, during the high-level meeting on the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Griffiths affirmed that these aid and other essential life-saving support, including food assistance, would have to be reduced in the coming weeks and months because they have less than a fifth of the money they need this year.

He called for donors to continue to generously fund the humanitarian operation, stressing the need to address the root causes of the crisis in Yemen and take new measures to boost the country’s economy and people’s income.
