Tribal sheikh assassinated in Lahj

LAHJ, Sept. 23 (YPA) – Unknown gunmen assassinated a tribal sheikh in a remote village in Tuban District of Lahj province, southern Yemen, media sources reported on Wednesday.

The sources quoted a local source as saying that “Radwan Ahmed Saleh al-Awlaqi” – Sheikh of the village of Kod Bayhan in the Green City – was killed two days ago by gunmen who targeted his car in the village.

A villager was wounded while trying to confront the gunmen who killed Sheikh Al-Awlaqi, the sources added .

The security forces loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, which are deployed in the area, have not been able to apprehend the perpetrators until now, the sources said.

The reasons behind the assassination of Sheikh al-Awlaqi are not yet known, but the operation comes within the insecurity state that Lahj has been experiencing over the past seven years.
