UAE-backed militia place Laila al-Khathiri under house arrest

ADEN, Sept. 21 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)’s militia on Monday placed the head of Southern Movement Council of Liberal Forces under house arrest in Aden.

Laila al-Khathiri, head of the Movement Council, said in a press statement that she was kidnapped by members of the “STC” and released on condition that she remains under house arrest.

Al-Khathiri said armed elements surrounded the crowd of demonstrators’ vehicles in Dar Saad area, stopped demonstrators’ buses and prevented them from participating in the Mansoura protests.

For the ninth day in a row, Aden has been witnessing a series of protests condemning the deteriorating living conditions and the collapse of services, and demanding an end to the collapse of the currency, amid a campaign of kidnappings of more than 280 demonstrators in various areas of the city.

The Crater district entered a state of civil disobedience, amid the proliferation of protesters on the streets in defiance of the STC’s curfew.
