SANAA, Aug. 17 (YPA) – The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) expected thunderstorms of varying intensity, accompanied by strong downward winds, over a number of provinces during the next 24 hours.
The center stated in its weather bulletin on Monday that moderate to heavy rain is expected in separate areas of the mountainous provinces from Lahj and Taiz in the south to Saada in the north.
The center pointed out that the rains will be heavier in the provinces of Lahj, Taiz, Ibb, Dhale’e, Dhamar, Raymah, Mahwit and Hajjah, and on parts of the inner hills of the provinces of Bayda, Shabwa, Abyan and Hadramout.
According to the center, scattered rain may fall on parts of the western coasts and the adjacent interior areas, and it will be light to medium on the southern coasts.
The center pointed to the continuation of the activity of the southwest monsoon winds on the Socotra archipelago, the southern and eastern coasts, the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab.
The center warned citizens against being present or crossing valleys and flood corridors during and after rain, calling for taking the necessary precautions against thunderstorms and strong downward winds.
The centre warned motorists on slopes, mountain turns and coastal plains of reduced horizontal visibility due to heavy rains and fog formation, as well as rockslides and mudslides.
The centre also warned fishermen and captains of small ships in the Socotra archipelago and the southern and eastern coasts of sea turbulence and high waves.
The center indicated that thunderstorms of varying intensity fell during the past hours outside the scope of weather monitoring stations on separate areas of the western and southwestern mountainous heights and the interior plateaus.
