KABUL, Aug. 17 (YPA) – Thousands of desperate civilians gathered to flee Afghanistan at Kabul’s capital airport on Sunday and Monday after the Taliban took control over the capital, prompting the US military to suspend evacuations.
Crowds poured into the airport in an effort to escape, including those attached to a US military transport plane as it touch down the runway.
Television footage showed that one person apparently fell off the plane during take-off.
The Washington Post quoted unnamed sources as saying that human remains were found in the wheel of a military plane after landing in a country from Kabul.
US forces fired into the air to deter people who tried to make their way to a military flight to evacuate US diplomats and embassy staff, a US official said.
