SANAA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck an area about 66 kilometers southeast of Bobon, Philippines, the U.S. Geological Survey said Wednesday.
It issued warnings about the risk of tsunamis after the earthquake.
The Philippines is located in an area known as the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where about 90% of the world’s earthquakes occur.
The last major earthquake to hit the country was measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, in which more than 220 people died in the central Philippines in October 2013.
