SANAA, Aug. 07 (YPA) – The Public Authority for Environmental Protection in Sanaa issued on Saturday a decision banning the use, manufacture and importation of non-biodegradable plastic bags for commercial and household packaging.
The decision called on all facilities and factories that manufacture plastic bags to switch to the manufacture of biodegradable bags, by adding degradable materials to the raw materials for the production of bags.
Abdul-Malik Al-Ghazali, the head of the authority, explained that the decision came as a result of the aggravation of the environmental and health damages caused by the remnants of non-biodegradable plastic bags, and their impact on the soil, water and air.
Al-Ghazali stressed that the authority will not tolerate taking legal measures against those who will violate the decision, indicating that field control campaigns will be implemented in coordination with various government agencies.
