LAHJ, Jul. 27 (YPA) – Locomotive and truck drivers complained of illegal collection points continued to be developed by security forces in Lahj province, southern Yemen, Aljanoob Alyoum media outlet reported, citing sources.
The drivers said that the points belonging to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC)‘s militias imposed 10,000 riyals on each locomotive, under the name of supporting fighters in the Front of Karsh.
The drivers saw the security belt practices as an extension of a series of exploitation and extortion that constantly targets them in a number of areas of Lahj.
Drivers and traders explained that imposing large levies on them leads them to raise the prices of products and food, which exacerbates the suffering of citizens.
The STC militias imposed large amounts of cash on truck drivers and locomotives under the pretext of supporting the Karsh front, a number of drivers complained last May that they collect between 5,000 and 10,000 riyals in money on each truck in the Al-Anad area at gunpoint.
Hadi and STC authorities are fighting over the province’s revenues, which is a burden on drivers and citizens.
