Iran confirms reaching agreement with USA to exchange prisoners

TEHRAN, Jul. 18 (YPA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Sunday that Iran insists that an agreement has been reached with the United States of America (USA) on a prisoner exchange.

This came a day after Washington denied that such an agreement had been reached.

“The outrageous is that the USA is denying the simple truth of reaching an agreement on the issue of detainees and even on how to announce it,” Khatibzadeh said in a tweet.

It was agreed with the USA and the United Kingdom in Vienna to exchange the release of 10 prisoners from each side for humanitarian reasons, and this agreement is not related to the negotiations on the nuclear agreement (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), he added.

On Saturday, the USA accused Iran of making an “outrageous” attempt to deflect blame for the deadlock in the nuclear talks and denied any agreement on a prisoner exchange had been reached.
