Saudi authorities arrest doctor for several weeks for her opinions

SANAA, Jul. 14 (YPA) – The Saudi authorities arrested Dr. Lina al-Sharif, 33, several weeks ago for her public opinions, ALQST for Human Rights organization said

Al-Sharif is still forcibly hidden, the organization explained in a statement on twitter.

AlQST was unable to determine the reason for the actions, noting that her arrest was related to her peaceful social media activity, the statement read.

According to the organization, Saudi authorities arrested Dr. Lina al-Sharif in May 2021 and prevented her family to contact with her for several weeks as she was detained in circumstances of  concealment.

The organization has no additional information about her conditions or place of detention, asserting that the practice of concealment is part of a broader approach that begins with arbitrary detention, followed by a prolonged or shorter period of concealment and then the detainee appears at trial.

It called on the Saudi authorities to reveal the fate of al- Sharif immediately and to release all other detainees unconditionally.
