US Embassy in Baghdad targeted, sirens sounded

SANAA, Jul. 8 (YPA) – Alarm sirens sounded from the US embassy in Baghdad, early Thursday morning, and the missile defense system was activated to respond to a missile that tried to target the embassy’s surroundings.

An Iraqi security source said, in a statement to the media, that “the warning sirens were sounded at the American embassy, ​​but the reason is not known until now.”

For its part, the Iraqi newspaper “Shafaq News” reported, on Thursday, that “the US embassy in Baghdad has activated the missile defense system [Si-Ram], to confront a missile that tried to target the embassy’s vicinity.”

The US embassy is located in the Green Zone, which is one of the highly fortified areas inside the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The green zone includes government buildings and the headquarters of foreign diplomatic missions. However, that area, especially the headquarters of the US embassy, ​​is subjected to rocket attacks with Katyusha rockets, from time to time, but it does not cause casualties.
