Lavrov: destabilizing Russia is possible ahead of parliamentary elections

SANAA, Jul. 08 (YPA) – Western countries  seek to destabilize the country ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for September 19th by inciting protests,  Russia’s foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov said.

“It can be assumed that before the next parliamentary elections, there will be new attempts to undermine and destabilize the situation, incite some protests, even violent protests, as the West always likes to do,” Lavrov said Thursday.

“The West may launch a campaign not to recognize the results of the elections,” he said, noting that “these scenarios drawn up by the West will not be realized.”

The upcoming elections in Russia will be held at various levels, including parliamentary ones, on 19 September 2021, on the day of the unified vote.

Nikolai Patrushev, the secretary of Russia’s Security Council, said earlier that there were external attempts to inflame social tension in Russia ahead of parliamentary elections, noting the importance of intercepting any attempts to harm national interests and the rights of Russian citizens.
