Voting begins for early parliamentary elections in Armenia

SANAA, Jun. 20 (YPA) – The Electoral Commission of Armenia said that more than 2,000 polling stations opened their doors to voters at 8 am on Sunday to participate in the early elections for the National Assembly (the unicameral parliament).

The committee stated that voting will end at 22:00 (21:00).

25 political parties and blocs are participating in the current elections, and according to public opinion polls, the “Civil Contract” party, led by current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, is considered the most likely to win, as well as the “Armenia” bloc, headed by Robert Kocharyan (former president of the republic).

The “My Honor” bloc led by the country’s third president, Serzh Sargsyan and former head of the National Security Apparatus Artur Vanitsyan, as well as the “Prosperous Armenia” party, led by Gagik Tsarukyan, and the “Enlightened Armenia” party led by Edmond Marukyan, crossed the barrier to entering Parliament.

The Armenian National Congress Party, led by the first President of the Republic, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, will also participate in the elections.

To enter Parliament, the party must receive at least 5% of the vote, and the bloc – 7%.

According to the Central Election Commission of Armenia, more than 2.5 million people have the right to vote.
