Number of Jordanian security personnel injured in clashes near Amman

AMMAN, Jun.06 (YPA) – A number of Jordanian public security personnel were injured during riots, shootings and burning of vehicles in the Naour area of Amman on Saturday evening.

According to The Jordanian News Agency (Petra), police said in a statement that four members of a security force that dealt with riots in the Naour area were injured and now they are under treatment.

A security force dealt Saturday evening with riots, burning of vehicles and firing shots into the air by a group of people in the Naour area west of Amman, a media spokesman for Jordan’s Public Security Directorate said.

For its part, the Ministry of Interior issued a statement saying: “The last few hours have witnessed armed attacks on security forces near Queen Alia International Airport road, some security personnel injured,

The statement  noted that that ministry  will not allow any gatherings contrary to the laws governing the right of assembly.

Reuters reported that the attacks were carried out by tribal supporters of a deputy whose membership had recently been suspended by parliament.

A few days ago, parliament decided to freeze the membership of MP Osama al-Ajarma for one year for insulting the Council, prompting members of his clan to call for protests.
