BERLIN, May 02 (YPA) – German police clashed with demonstrators who took to the streets of Berlin on Saturday to celebrate Labor Day, injuring three security officers.
Authorities deployed some 5,000 police. Some security personnel used pepper spray to disperse protesters in the second labor day protests since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, Reuters reported.
The injuries occurred after some demonstrators threw fireworks, bottles and stones at police to protest social inequality.
The number of participants in this year’s protests has increased from last year, although social spacing rules continue to apply.
Several European cities witnessed similar protests, particularly Paris, where police arrested 46 protesters, while protesters set fire to garbage cans and smashed the windows of a bank.
