SANAA, April 29 (YPA) – US officials have said that President Joe Biden’s administration is considering almost completely rolling back some of his predecessor Donald Trump’s toughest sanctions against Iran in an effort to bring Tehran back into compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal.
The Associated Press quoted well-informed officials as saying that Washington is thinking with a wider horizon about what it may be prepared to offer to Tehran, with the continuation of indirect talks in the Austrian capital Vienna, to explore the possibility of reviving the nuclear deal.
US officials refused to discuss the sanctions being considered for lifting, but said they were open to lifting any sanctions that are inconsistent with the nuclear deal, or deny Iran the waiver it deserves if it returns to compliance with the deal.
Biden administration officials stressed the need to take this step; Because of what they described as a deliberate attempt by the Trump administration to block any return to the deal, as under the 2015 agreement, the United States was only required to lift sanctions related to Iran’s nuclear program.
A spokesman for the US State Department, “Ned Price,” said, “Any return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the nuclear agreement) requires the easing of sanctions, but we are only considering removing those sanctions that contradict the agreement.”
