SANAA, April 14 (YPA) – Britain planed to withdraw almost all its troops from Afghanistan in the wake of the US plan to withdraw its troops by September 11, 2021, British media reported on Tuesday.
“Britain has drawn up plans to hand over control of the academy in Kabul, where troops are helping in training Afghan soldiers for the government,” the Times newspaper reported.
According to the paper, there are about 750 British soldiers in Afghanistan who would have faced a difficult task without US support, due to reliance on US bases and infrastructure.
At the end of February last year, at a ceremony in Qatar, the United States and the Taliban signed the first peace agreement in more than 18 years of war.
The agreement stated the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan within 14 months, and the start of a dialogue between Afghans after a prisoner exchange deal, in which the government releases 5,000 Taliban, while the latter releases some 1,000 captured security personnel.
