8 people Killed, wounded in car bomb in western Afghanistan
SANAA, March 13 (YPA) – Eight people were killed and at least 47 wounded, the vast majority of them women and children, in a car bomb explosion on Friday evening near a police station in Herat, western Afghanistan.
The agency “Agence France Presse” quoted a spokesman for the governor of Herat state, Gilani Farhad, that the death toll from the attack amounts to eight dead and 47 wounded, indicating that “among the dead were a member of the security forces and seven civilians, two men, two women and three children.”
He explained that among the wounded, at least twenty women and eight children, in addition to eight members of the Afghan forces, added that the attack caused damage to dozens of homes and shops.
For his part, Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Erian said that “54 wounded, including seven policemen.”
The Afghan government controls Herat, one of the largest Afghan cities, but the surrounding countryside is witnessing battles between Afghan forces and the Taliban.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the Friday attack, while a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, denied the group’s relationship with the Herat bombing.
