ADEN, May 27 (YPA) – Fierce fighting broke out on Sunday in the southern port city of Aden, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that the clashes took place in Martyrs Square, between UAE-backed security belt forces and armed protesters from Mansoura, demanding the release of the southern leader Walid al-Idrissi who was arrested by UAE occupation forces.
According to the local sources, the clashes broke out after the forces tried to disperse protesters, confirming that medium weapons were used in the clashes, whose results are not yet known.
Close sources of Al-Idrissi said that he was arrested at dawn on Sunday after being shot by UAE-baked security belt forces trying to arrest him.
The UAE-backed militias tried to arrest him at Martyrs Square and opened fire on him, where he was wounded and managed to reach his home at Block 32 in the city, the sources added.
The United Arab of Emirates occupation forces raided his house and detained him.
